Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling provides a supportive environment for students to express their thoughts and feelings about particular topics with their peers. These groups, generally comprised of 4-6 students, are short term. Groups are created based on data and parent or teacher referrals.
Examples of groups offered by Mrs. Atkins:
Pirate Island (3rd-5th): Work cooperatively to solve puzzles to help your group escape from Pirate Island. This group supports social skills, cooperation, and leadership skills.
SS GRIN (2nd-4th): This group is a research based social skills group. Check out this introduction.
SS GRIN HFA (1st-3rd): This group is a research based social skills group for students with special needs. We teach social skills such as eye contact, listening skills, and compromise in a structured, step-by-step method great for kids with special needs. Check out this introduction.
Academic Advisement (3rd-5th): Using last year's EOG data, we will create groups to help students create goals for learning. We will learn about organization, study skills, and other academic tools for the school year.
Girls Rock (2nd-4th): We use pop music (Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, etc) to focus on self-esteem and believing in yourself.
Liking Myself (1st-3rd): This group is for everyone to build self-esteem and assertiveness skills in getting along!
